Program Description...

To establish an atmosphere for change management, engagement, and resilience, organizations and leaders must invest in training that brings a coaching style approach to leadership. Change is a fact of life, and it’s often been said that leadership is about coping with change. Coaching style approaches can support a long-term strategy for reducing tensions and uncertainty among employees.

The evolving business environment presents challenges for leaders at all levels. Leaders need to understand, guide, and direct people more than ever to craft and support employee well-being, productivity, and company culture.

Coaching conversations are the foundation for all of these leadership actions. Many leaders can struggle with these discussions or misunderstand the role of coaching as a leadership tool.

Engaged teams, satisfied patients, and effective collaboration through better leadership.

The Pocket Bridges Mission

After five years of healthcare leadership roles, I became the lead physician and chair of the hospital’s women’s service line.

As my new leadership position was announced, one of my peer physicians joked that I was going to the dark side.

While this was only a joke, little did I know that it would be planting seeds for Pocket Bridges.

Over the next year of leading a team, I realized three crucial facts:

  1. Most providers feel like administration is out of touch and does not understand their unique environment.

  2. Most administrative leaders struggle to build a connection with providers for various reasons.

  3. This disconnect is pervasive and across many healthcare institutions. It is holding effective collaboration back, and most leaders are not even aware of it.

Highly effective healthcare organizations have administrative leaders who are trusted and understood by their peers and providers alike.

When trust and understanding are broken, friction builds, and it leads to unengaged, unmotivated physicians.

The end results are problems with patient satisfaction and high employee turnover.

With Pocket Bridges, I help healthcare executives become better leaders not just by increasing their leadership skills but also by giving them my unique physician perspective.

I hope to be your leadership advisor and coach that you have in your back pocket to help “bridge” the gap between medicine and administration.

What People Say

Dr. Miller is a wonderful coach. She was able to help me see clearly and move past fears about recent transitions that were occurring in my life. Discussing with her as a neutral party allowed me to voice concerns without fear of being judged by others for my choices. As a result of her coaching, I was able to clearly see what I wanted those transitions to look like and how to implement that with my family!

I have been fortunate enough to work with Dr. Miller in a leadership capacity for 2 years. As I stepped into a new leadership role in a new organization, I sought out Dr. Miller to assist, advise, and coach me as I transitioned into a new career. Dr. Miller created a balance between coaching, mentoring, informing, and challenging that helped me create the right relationships with our Physician team. This allowed us to move key strategic initiatives forward in a much more effective manner. Dr. Miller helped us grow the Women’s department, in two short years, to not only meeting goals but exceeding them. With her help personally, I have been able to recognize where I could improve my own leadership style. She has helped me find balance in my work and home life. I wish I had found Dr. Miller earlier in my career.

Words to describe Dr. Miller - Flexible. Intuitive. Responsive. Caring. Dr. Miller was an invaluable source of advice, motivation, and guidance. She helped me clarify my thoughts and emotions during my career transition and identify what I needed to do to move forward. She helped me see hope by breaking down the steps I needed to take into more manageable steps. We worked on the best methods of articulating my strengths, identifying my weaknesses, and being able to support and fulfill my new career goals and objectives. She was supportive, candid, and provided healthy debates to guide me through my decision-making process. What I found most helpful about Dr. Miller’s coaching was her ability to help me see the real me!
